Apple Unveils Three AI Devices

Apple is working on three AI-powered wearable devices — smart glasses, a pendant, and improved AirPods — that could debut as early as next year.

The Big Picture: Apple has been lagging behind its competitors in AI, and the company is now in hyperspeed mode to catch up. Recently, it announced a new version of Siri — powered by Google Gemini — that will be part of iOS 27 later this year. By also making a play in the wearables space, the company is ensuring that no rival tech firm gets the upper hand to become… well… the new Apple.

Behind The Code: What Apple AI device would you add to your fit?

  • Smart glasses: Apple is positioning these as its most high-tech offering. The frames are made in-house — available in several styles, sizes, and colors — and will feature two cameras: one for premium photography and another for computer vision, allowing the AI to analyze a person’s environment.

  • Pendant: Similar to Humane’s failed Pin, the pendant can be clipped to clothing or worn around the neck. More of an iPhone accessory, it will feature an always-on camera and microphone for speaking with Siri.

  • AirPods: The updated AirPods will include a small camera so the system can visualize the environment and deliver suggestions via Siri right in your ear. Most of the computing for both the AirPods and the Pendant would be handled by a user’s iPhone.

Last Looks: Apple has a lot of catching up to do when it comes to AI wearables. Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses are a hit, Snap is spinning out a company dedicated to its Spectacles, and OpenAI is working with famed iPhone designer Jony Ive on a secretive device that’s meant to replace the best-selling smartphone.

If there’s one thing that Apple arguably does better than anyone else, it’s delivering quality products with a built-in fanbase. So, if the company gets this right, it could still come out on top.

The Future: While AI is what Apple is selling these products on, adding cutting-edge AR tech to the smart glasses — which the company plans to do in the future — could be the real game-changer.
