Ben Affleck Has An AI Company. And Netflix Just Bought It.

Ben Affleck just revealed that he founded an AI-powered filmmaking startup called InterPositive — and has already sold it to Netflix for an undisclosed sum. The tool could reshape how projects are made at the streamer.

The Big Picture: Like it or not, AI has arrived across the entertainment industry. Affleck recognized that early on, so he created a company to help guide how the tech is used in film and TV. The goal: speed up post-production without sidelining human artistry.

Behind The Scenes: Affleck drew on his experience as a writer, director, actor, and producer to inform how AI could help — rather than harm — the film and TV industry.

  • InterPositive, which he quietly founded in 2022, trained its proprietary model on a “storehouse of visual data created by human actors on a secure soundstage,” per Deadline.

  • That allows filmmakers to upload all their production footage, so the model can be trained to that specific movie or show — essentially becoming a filmmaker’s personal AI tool.

  • The system can handle post-production tasks like color correction, relighting shots, background replacements, filling in missing shots, and adding VFX all in the style of what has already been filmed.

  • Affleck hopes that gives filmmakers more freedom to focus on the most important aspects: the story, the performances, and the creativity behind the camera.

Final Credits: This marks the second time in a month that Affleck and Netflix are shaking up the industry together. Recently, Affleck and Matt Damon’s Artists Equity — an indie studio that shares financial windfalls with every member of the cast and crew — struck a streaming-only deal with the company after the success of The Rip. His next directorial effort, Animals, debuts later this year.

With the InterPositive deal, Affleck will step in as a senior adviser at Netflix to oversee its rollout across the streamer’s slate. It’s a rare acquisition for the company (which recently bowed out of the bidding for Warner Bros.) that, while small, could be a meaningful draw for filmmakers eager to experiment with AI responsibly.
