FX’s Adults Gets A New Pilot

FX is releasing a fresh pilot episode of its critically acclaimed comedy Adults — a series that debuted last year and has its second season premiering later this month.

The Big Picture: FX decided to release a new pilot after internal data showed that many potential viewers were dropping off during the show’s very first scene. Granted, it’s a purposely controversial comedic one, which the network and creators recognized. The move underscores just how difficult it is to get audiences to commit to a show in today’s on-demand TV ecosystem.

Behind The Scenes: Despite being popular with viewers under 35, FX is hoping a new pilot can win over a broader audience for Adults — a half-hour comedy about young adults living together in NYC.

  • FX chief John Landgraf asked creators Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw if they would consider adding a scene to the existing pilot to better ease viewers into the show’s explicit tone.

  • Instead, the creators produced a prequel episode focused on the show’s most heartfelt character meeting the rest of the cast — giving viewers a more palatable POV to get invested in the story. Landgraf called it more “legible” for new viewers.

  • The episode is being “slotted directly in front of” the original pilot on Hulu. It’ll also stream for free on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. Additionally, the prequel and the entire first season will be available on Tubi and Roku.

Final Cut: In the olden days of FX (think the 2000s and early 2010s), the network could seemingly turn any comedy into a hit. Landgraf credits that consistency to the habits of the cable era, with NYT noting that “a new series would have a built-in audience of roughly a million viewers who had just finished watching a movie on FX.” Then, FX could rerun the episode throughout the week to reach another million viewers each day. Now, Landgraf says streaming doesn’t provide any “inherent way of focusing a bazooka of attention on it.”

Still, Landgraf believes the show is worthy of the extra investment because he considers Kronengold and Shaw “generational talent.” The FX chief has a pretty great track record of trusting his gut.

Coming Soon: If the experiment pays off, it’s possible other networks and streamers will give it a try — and it may even become a new negotiating tool to help under-seen shows get renewed for another season.

Your Notion Workspace Is A Product — Start Treating It Like One

Early-stage teams move fast, but their internal systems often struggle to keep up.

In the first few months of building a company, it’s easy for documentation, roadmaps, meeting notes, hiring plans, and customer insights to become scattered across different tools and conversations.

At first, the mess feels manageable.

But as the team grows, every unclear process becomes a drag on execution.

The most effective founders treat their workspace like a product.

That means designing it intentionally — with a clear structure, useful templates, shared naming conventions, and a simple onboarding experience for every new team member.

A strong workspace makes work easier to find, decisions easier to track, and priorities easier to understand.

Operational debt compounds just like technical debt.

Every duplicate doc, lost decision, or unclear handoff slows the team down.

By building a clean, scalable workspace early, founders create a stronger foundation for faster execution, better collaboration, and less time spent searching for context.

Build a workspace that scales with your team.
