Hint Wants To Manage Your Home With AI

Martha Stewart is joining the AI-driven economy with a new startup called Hint, which autonomously manages home maintenance and paperwork.
The Picture: For the vast majority of Americans, a home is the single most expensive asset they’ll ever own — so taking care of it is crucial. That’s especially true as housing costs, along with the cost of maintaining properties, continue to surge. Studies have found that Americans spend $500 billion annually on repairs and are more worried about maintenance costs than they were just a year ago.
Behind The Walls: Hint — founded by Martha Stewart, AI engineer Kyle Rush, and former Red Ventures SVP of Home Services Yih-Han Ma — wants to give homeowners some peace of mind.
To use the platform, homeowners simply enter their address and upload documents such as inspection reports, warranties, bills, and insurance policies.
The proprietary AI then analyzes those documents and “pulls public data on the property, weather, soil, air quality, listings, and other signals” to better understand the home’s “history and needs,” according to Fortune.
That allows the system — which will be available on desktop and iOS this summer — to track a home’s condition and offer recommendations before owners even realize something needs to be fixed or updated.
That could mean telling a homeowner to check their foundation before damage occurs, reminding them to shop for insurance before a policy expires, or warning them when they’re paying too much for utilities.
Last Look: Hint is emerging from stealth with $10 million in seed funding in a round led by Slow Ventures. The platform intends to make money by acting as a middleman between homeowners and the contractors or products that can address their needs. While Hint collects a fee from those transactions, the recommendations are made “blindly” to avoid conflicts of interest.
And for Martha Stewart fans, access to home-maintenance guides written specifically by her may be worth the price of admission alone.
Next Remodel: We all know Stewart’s bestie is none other than Snoop Dogg — so it may only be a matter of time before we get an AI version of Snoop telling you what’s going down with your home. We can’t wait.
