Marriott Bonvoy Rolls Out Hub For Outdoor Experiences

Marriott Bonvoy, the rewards program of the Marriott hotel empire, is introducing a new hub, Marriott Bonvoy Outdoors, dedicated to adventure-focused properties and activities.
Why It Hits: Ever since the pandemic, travelers have rediscovered the joy of the outdoors, driving a surge in demand for the sector while spending in nearly every other category has plummeted. Though the need for social distancing is long gone, vacation itineraries remain focused on getting outside and exploring.
Behind The Stays: Marriott Bonvoy wants you to touch some grass, with its new hub highlighting 450 hotels, 50,000 residences, and a treasure hunt across 20 destinations hosted by TV personality Dylan Efron.
The data backs up the backpacking:
The Adventure Travel Trade Association found that the “adventure-first” traveler base has increased from 30% to 40%.
Two-thirds of international travelers are now open to adventure experiences.
The adventure market is now valued at $1.16 trillion, which encompasses outdoor activities, cultural exchange, and other physical experiences.
Final Reservation: Competitors Hyatt and Hilton have their own adventure-focused programs, but nothing as wide-ranging as Marriott’s. And with the US economy projected to face a $12.5 billion deficit in international traveler spending this year, per Fast Company, Americans’ desire to get out and smell the roses could help ease the pain.
Upcoming Trip: The growing desire to disconnect from technology could mint Gen Z and Gen Alpha the target audience for Marriott Bonvoy Outdoors — turning the rewards program for young travelers into what airline miles were for millennials.
