Happy Wednesday, Future Party. On Monday, British runner Josh Kerr became the fastest man alive over the mile, running it in a record time of 3 minutes and 42.66 seconds — a mark that had stood for 27 years. For context, that’s an average speed of 16.2 mph. We’re not sure what the equivalent is in typing speed, but we wish we could do it.

TikTok Gets Sporty
TikTok is doubling down on sports content as its next major engagement driver.
Why It Plays: Live sports rights have become the MVP for broadcasters, streamers, and social platforms. TikTok hasn’t played too heavily in that arena compared to competitors YouTube and X, but by striking top influencer-driven deals, it could become a real contender.
Behind The Deals: TikTok wants sports to go viral.
Boxing: TikTok’s first live match will feature superstar fighter Amanda Serrano defending her title from Lucrecia Manzur. It will be broadcast on August 21.
Serrano broke out on Netflix’s Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson event and was the first boxer signed to Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions.
NBA & WNBA: TikTok signed both basketball leagues to its TikTok GamePlan product suite, which allows leagues to “activate on the titular app and partner with its creators,” per Tubefilter.
The partnership will give creators access to highlights and marquee events like NBA All-Star Weekend — exactly the kind of content that goes viral — in the hopes of driving people from their phones to live games.
Final Shot: Of course, the most important element of this — at least to TikTok and the leagues — is the advertising opportunity. TikTok is using sports rights to push its Pulse Premiere ad product, which allows brands to place ad spots alongside major events and featured content.
It’s the type of targeted advertising that could help legacy brands finally capture the attention of the audience they crave most — young people.
Coming Soon: We wouldn’t be surprised if TikTok starts minting “sports ambassadors” — creators who ink extended, wide-ranging deals with leagues on the platform.

Don’t Lose Out On The Next World Cup
Everyone likes to say, “I knew it,” after the final whistle blows.
But Kalshi rewarded those brave enough to make the call before the big game ended on Sunday. The championship game became the largest trading event in prediction market history.
Almost $1.9 billion was traded on the tournament winner market alone.
Those who predicted Spain would win were paid out 1.65x of their investment.
The World Cup may be over, but Kalshi gives you front-row access to a host of trades across sports, culture, politics, and much more.
Don’t get caught missing the right call next time around.
Zoom Wants A Better Story
Zoom inked a partnership with Smart Girl Dumb Questions podcaster and independent journalist Nayeema Raza to help reshape the company’s marketing strategy.
Why It Hits: More and more companies are relying on link-ups with creators, podcasters, and other influencers to boost their street cred and build stronger relationships with younger generations. The hope is that these influential personalities will, by association, make the brand seem cooler and more in touch. Time will tell if the strategy pays off.
Behind The Screen: Raza has made a career out of asking leaders across business, science, and culture tough questions. Now, she’ll do the same over Zoom.
She’ll launch a new interview series in collaboration with the company that focuses on “solopreneurs” — people who own and operate their own businesses.
She’ll also host a six-part miniseries of her flagship program exploring “how technology is reshaping work and leadership,” per Variety.
She’ll also take part in Zoom’s annual user conference, Zoomtopia, where she’ll present content on stage.
Meeting Notes: News and opinion media has become a key sector where companies are partnering with creators. OpenAI acquired Silicon Valley favorite TPN earlier this year, while VC firm Andreessen Horowitz launched its own outlet, Monitoring the Situation. That’s because c-suites are realizing that influencers are doing what traditional comms teams struggle to do online every day — telling a company’s story in a way that’s authentic and engaging.
But doing that without seeming like you’re buying an opinion is a whole new kind of quandary that requires companies to give storytellers much more leeway than they traditionally would a typical ad agency. Zoom said that Raza will have the freedom to tell the stories she wants.
It’s a leap of faith.
The Future: Soon, every company may have a “creator-in-residence.”

What do you primarily use Zoom for?
28.8% of you voted Never in yesterday’s poll: How often do you buy secondhand clothing?
“Clothing is so cheap I always buy new.”
“I used to buy used clothing all the time, but that was when I could find really cool vintage pieces cheaply. Now the secondhand market has become overpriced and not quite as interesting.”
“I don’t buy secondhand for one reason only: there really aren’t any decent resale stores in my area. The only other option is yard sales, which are quite fun. I know there are online secondhand stores, but they make me a bit leery — not just because of the chance of being scammed, but because not every clothing brand is sized the same. I may wear a large in one brand but a small in another. Shoot, I hardly buy new clothes online for that same reason!”
“I always choose pre-loved clothing over poorly manufactured, mass-produced tat. For someone with a keen eye for labels and excellent craftsmanship, give me a bargain basket to rummage around in any day.”
“It’s the ultimate form of recycling. Not to mention, many older garments are simply made better.”
