Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions and Brent Montgomery’s Wheelhouse are investing in the newly launched BBQ World Cup & Expo.
Why It Sizzles: It’s the season of competition, with new sports leagues, competition series, and stunt-driven shows taking off. Meanwhile, cooking series have been an evergreen favorite for years, with recent international competition shows drawing eyeballs across streaming platforms. So, yeah, betting on BBQ is a tasty choice.
Behind The Grill: The BBQ World Cup & Expo is heating up.
Founded by CEO Scott Erdmann and President Shannon Pruitt, the organization is launching with 51 established qualifying events across 13 countries, per THR.
The competition will culminate in a championship event in Las Vegas next April, where the top 100 pitmasters will compete for a $1 million prize.
Last Bite: The BBQ World Cup & Expo is already gaining steam. Founding Shake Shack CEO David Swinhamer is joining as a co-founder and partner, and the organization has already spiced up its advisory roster with big names across the food and VC industries.
Erdmann and Pruitt said they plan to use the fresh round of funding to build out the inaugural event, expand the BBQ United platform into “a year-round digital home for barbecue fans and competitors,” and launch a new creator venture called Smoke Ring.
