Happy Thursday, Future Party. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, completely off the grid, and on a deserted island, you know that pop superstar Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce got engaged on Tuesday. Their Instagram announcement has already racked up 31 million likes and 9.9 million shares — making it the most engaged-with post in the platform’s history. Meanwhile, streams of “So High School,” the track featured in the post, spiked 400% on Spotify. So, yeah… you’d truly have to be living under a rock not to have heard the news.

Gen Z Puts Their Money Where The Growth Is

Build to break // Illustration by Kate Walker

Gen Z and lower-income Americans are investing at higher rates than any previous generation, according to a new study from the JPMorganChase Institute.

The Big Bet: The increase in investing coincides with record declines in first-time home ownership — the most tried-and-true method of wealth building. With housing prices becoming so cost-prohibitive, many young people are realizing that putting all their disposable income toward saving for a down payment isn’t the most financially responsible choice these days.

Behind The Portfolios: It turns out there’s no dopamine rush quite like immediately building wealth — or chasing the hope of getting rich quickly.

  • One-third of 25-year-olds now have investment accounts — six times more than a decade ago.

  • As of this year, people with “below-median incomes” are five times more likely to be investing than they were a decade ago.

  • The surge in popularity has been fueled by people learning about investing during the pandemic, the introduction of apps that made retail trading easier, and the recent wild gains in the stock market.

  • Demographically, young men are the most active investors — a phenomenon that also matches growth in crypto and alternative-asset markets.

The Future: Interestingly, the study found that the same people who are pouring money into investments also have low liquid cash. That means some of those investors could be treating the stock market like a slot machine, hoping to strike it rich by chasing trends or buying a dip, per Axios.

That could make Wall Street investing as much a gamble as Las Vegas — meaning a lot of people could lose their shirts if they don’t stick to sound investing principles.

Projection: If some Gen Zers play their cards right, they could save up for a down payment through stock-market gains alone — rather than relying solely on career income.

This Toxin-Free Refillable Detergent Is Changing The Way Families Do Laundry

Did you know your clothes might still be dirty after washing? Not because of stains, but because of what’s left behind.

Many traditional detergents are loaded with chemicals like artificial fragrances, hormone disruptors, and petroleum-based fillers. And these ingredients don’t rinse out.

They cling to your clothes, soak into your skin, and can even be inhaled through the air in your laundry room.

That’s why over 500,000 families have made the switch to Truly Free Home.

Their plant-based formula skips the artificial thickeners, optical brighteners, and synthetic scents that traditional brands rely on. It’s powerful enough to tackle dirty socks and sweaty gym gear, but gentle enough for babies, pets, and sensitive skin.

What’s even better is that their patented refill system replaces single-use plastic with a single reusable jug, reducing waste and clutter while delivering over 50 loads per mix.

The Tech Industry Wants Your Face

Minor watch // Illustration by Kate Walker

Tech companies, digital storefronts, and social platforms are using cutting-edge methods to verify the ages of their users.

The Big Picture: The changes come as more legislation is passed to protect kids from online dangers, including the UK’s Online Safety Act and similar laws in Texas, Utah, and Mississippi. While current rules restrict users under 13 from accessing certain content, new measures aim to extend those limits to minors under 18 — making enforcement even trickier.

Behind The Checks: The harder it is to verify ages, the more advanced the technology must be to do so.

  • Apple has set up a new API that allows parents to share their child’s age range with developers — without disclosing the exact birthday.

  • Meta verifies whether someone is under 18 through an ID check, which can also require a video selfie analyzed by a third party called Yoti.

  • TikTok requires users to undergo a credit card check or upload their ID along with three selfies. It works with third-party company Incode to create tokens that verify age without disclosing personal information.

  • Google uses AI to help verify ages by monitoring people’s Search history and YouTube activity.

Final Check: Of course, age verification isn’t without its kinks, and people have been locked out of their accounts incorrectly, according to The WSJ. And with deepfakes becoming an increasingly serious issue, tech companies must be extra vigilant in ensuring that uploaded IDs, selfies, and videos are genuine. Some British users have circumvented Discord’s age-verification tools simply by using stills from the game Death Stranding. Granted, Death Stranding does have some pretty great graphics.

Prediction: If age-gating laws are ever passed at the federal level, verifying ages while protecting privacy could become one of Silicon Valley’s toughest challenges.

88.9% of you voted Yes in yesterday’s poll: Do you think AI has already changed the traditional career ladder?

“The fact that you can’t even get past the application process because AI is weeding out applicants before they can be considered is proof of that.”

“I’m a Boomer and an AI enthusiast yet work with Millennials who are afraid to use AI in the workplace. My company has their own AI department and encourages (but doesn’t mandate) its use. Many don’t realize it could cost them their jobs if they don’t adopt it to streamline their work processes.”

“In the last few weeks, I’ve read articles saying AI is taking jobs and others saying it’s overhyped, not doing what was expected, and making investors leery. Which is it?”

“I don’t think the structure of the career ladder has fundamentally changed. We’re just seeing a shift in the skills needed for entry-level employees to succeed, as well as more senior employees likely getting displaced faster if they don’t acquire these skills as well.”
