Sleepcations Are Trending

The new trend in travel is “sleepcations” — trips taken for the express purpose of getting a lot of high-quality sleep.

Why It Hits: Sleep is so hot right now. Between a sleep-tech industry expected to nearly triple to $44 billion by 2032 and the virality of sleep influencers like Jakey Boehm and Eliza Diaz, people are becoming more interested in how to get a better night’s rest. By mixing sleep with tourism and hospitality, hotels could find a comfortable new source of revenue.

Between The Naps: The top sightseeing destination on your next trip may be the inside of your eyelids.

  • Millennials and Gen Z travelers are choosing sleepcations as a way to intentionally catch up on shut-eye — especially those with irregular sleep patterns, poor work-life balance, or chronic sleep deprivation that calls for serious rest.

  • Hotels are all about it, gaining quiet guests who order room service, splurge on in-house amenities, and rarely bother the concierge.

  • So, hotels are offering curated sleep packages that include luxury linens, a selection of pillows and blankets, accessories like eye masks, skin-care products, and extras such as tea and CBD gummies.

Final Yawn: While getting a lot of uninterrupted sleep sounds amazing, The WSJ notes that sleep experts aren’t exactly in love with the idea. They agree that getting more sleep is beneficial, but saving that much-needed rest for one weekend every now and then won’t help much — accumulated sleep debt can’t be repaid in just a couple of nights. Instead, making a habit of getting a good night’s sleep is one of the best things you can do for your long-term health.

Still, lying on a cozy mattress and doing absolutely nothing sounds pretty great.

Next Snooze: Maybe the era of rise and grind is becoming the age of rest and recharge, giving productive people the natural energy to hustle when the sun’s up. What a concept.
