Taylor Swift Wants You To Dance At The Cinema

Taylor Swift announced a film tied to her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, set to hit theaters worldwide on October 3rd.

The Big Picture: TSwift’s return to cinemas is a big deal for the exhibition industry. Last year, her Eras Tour movie became the highest-grossing concert film ever, earning $261.6 million worldwide (plus a $75 million streaming deal with Disney). Expect theaters to be packed with Swifties come October.

Behind The Scenes: It wasn’t enough for Swift to release a new album; she also needed to light up the big screen with Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl.

  • Released by AMC Theatres’ distribution arm, the 89-minute movie will play exclusively during the October 3rd weekend at all domestic AMC locations and thousands of other theaters globally.

  • It’ll feature the video premiere for the single “The Fate of Ophelia,” never-before-seen BTS footage, inspirations behind the album, and several lyric videos — essentially a “mass version of one of Swift’s vaunted ‘secret sessions’ album events,” per Variety.

  • Each theater will run at least four screenings per day (without trailers, so don’t be late), and AMC will allow fans to sing and dance as long as they don’t block aisles or stand on seats.

  • Swift reportedly wanted PFL screens, but those are already spoken for by other releases that weekend, including the re-release of Avatar: The Way of Water and The Smashing Machine.

Last Looks: Tickets are $12 (before fees) and, in classic Swift fashion, went on sale at 12:12pm EST in honor of her 12th album. Word of the movie spread quickly, crashing AMC’s app with an influx of prospective ticket buyers. The movie has already generated $15 million in pre-sales and is expected to gross $50 million on its opening weekend.

You can always count on Taylor to activate the super fans with little more than an Instagram post.

Next Life: If successful, this could mark a new era where Swift pairs every album with a theatrical event — turning herself into a cinematic franchise as much as a musical one.

Both OpenAI and Anthropic released user studies this week showing how people actually use their chatbots.

Why It Hits: With so many chatbots available, it can be overwhelming to know which tool is best for which task. Luckily, plenty of users have already figured out what works for them — giving newcomers a helpful guide on where to begin.

Behind The Code: According to Insider, OpenAI’s ChatGPT is primarily used for “augmentation,” while Anthropic’s Claude leans towards “automation.”

  • OpenAI found students, marketers, and knowledge workers leverage ChatGPT for writing, editing, summarization, and brainstorming.

  • OpenAI splits activity into three buckets: Doing, Asking, and Expressing. Most conversations fall into Asking, which “supports decision-making but does not produce output directly.”

  • Meanwhile, Anthropic found Claude excels in software development and enterprise automation tasks like coding, processing documents, and generating reports.

  • But this is a relatively new phenomenon — it’s the first of Anthropic’s reports “where automation usage exceeded augmentation.”

The Future: These reports will likely serve as a North Star for safety researchers, providing a starting point to identify blind spots in each bot’s specific use cases. For instance, if everyone is using Claude for coding, many companies could end up experiencing the same bugs. Or if everyone turns to ChatGPT to write their college-admission essays, universities will know the tell-tale signs to look out for.

Prediction: The split in usage suggests a future where individuals and companies rely on different chatbots for different purposes — reducing the possibility of any one tool dominating the market.
