The Mall Brings All Brands Under One App

A new app called The Mall is bringing the browse, compare, and shop experience of a traditional mall to e-commerce… with a personalized twist.
Why It Hits: For all of the internet’s innovations, shopping across brands and products still requires a lot of open tabs and custom-made notes. The Mall’s ability to bring that experience into a unified platform could streamline online retail and help people keep track of a growing number of brands.
Behind The App: The Mall co-founder and COO Ellie Konsker — who previously worked at Tom Ford and Karla Otto — said she wanted to build the Spotify of shopping, per TechCrunch.
Users can curate their own virtual mall, allowing them to follow brands, track sales, and compare prices side by side.
The Mall does this by continuously scraping brand websites to surface up-to-date products and pricing info.
When users flag a product they’re interested in, the app sends push notifications for stock changes and sale alerts.
The app can also surface comparable products at lower prices, making it a potential discovery engine for smaller brands.
When users are ready to buy, The Mall opens the brand’s website within the app so they can complete their purchase.
Final Cart: The Mall says 10,000 brands are already onboarded, and users can add any brands they want by plugging in their Instagram or TikTok handles. Users can also make their malls public, allowing friends to see what they’ve curated.
The Mall, which is currently in invite-only beta, is free for users. The company plans to monetize through ads, sponsored billboards (much like a traditional mall), and an analytics platform that helps brands track clicks, gain user insights, and shape their offerings. The latter gives brands one thing every retailer wants more of: data.
Prediction: Considering The Mall’s public feeds, we could soon see a new type of influencer that retailers will want to target.
