Happy National Burrito Day, Future Party. Yes, it’s a real holiday… and Chipotle is celebrating by giving hungry customers the ability to win free burritos via a game called Burrito Vault. When the restaurant chain debuted the game last year, it “resulted in our highest digital transaction day of all time,” according to chief brand officer Chris Brandt. Delicious indeed.

UFC Taps Meta For Fan Technology Partnership

Interactive fight // Illustration by Kate Walker

Combat-sports league UFC has inked a multi-year deal with Meta to make the tech giant its “Official Fan Technology Partner.”

Why it Hits: Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and UFC CEO Dana White have been circling each other in recent years, with Zuck himself getting into mixed martial arts (and even competing in events) and White joining Meta’s board earlier this year. By teaming up, fans may soon get a chance to enter the Octagon… virtually, that is.

Behind the Octagon: How badly do you want to feel like you’re the one sweating and bleeding in a fight?

  • The deal will “immerse fans deeper into UFC content than ever before” across Meta’s various platforms and tech products.

  • Meta will also get branding inside the Octagon, will get certain digital broadcast rights, and will be integrated across all of UFC’s events.

  • Meta will also be the “Official AI Glasses Partner of UFC,” so expect some exclusive features to be shown in Quest headsets. (First-person POV fights in VR, anyone?)

Final Round: Even though it’s already the biggest mixed-martial arts league in the world, UFC is currently in its growth era. It combined with WWE under the Ari Emannuel-led TKO Group, broke records with an event at the Sphere in Las Vegas, and is negotiating a massive deal increase for TV and streaming rights with ESPN. The Meta partnership is simply another way to expand its global reach.

Flag Football Is Going Pro

New pros // Illustration by Kate Walker

The NFL is considering multiple bids to set up both a women’s and men’s professional flag-football league, which could debut as early as next year.

The Big Play: Flag football has exploded in popularity in recent years, so investors are chomping at the bit to take the sport pro. If the demand for the NFL’s new leagues mirrors that of pro pickleball just a couple of years ago, expect a lot of money, talent, and media firms to turn their attention to the sport.

Behind the Huddles: The NFL’s desire to start pro flag-football leagues is already looking like a touchdown.

  • The cost to invest in the league hasn’t yet been determined, but the NFL is considering proposals from 10 parties.

  • That group includes TKO, Ice Cube and producer Jeff Kwatinetz, Alexis Ohanian and Serena Williams, Connect Ventures (a partnership between CAA and New Enterprise Associates), and SMAC Entertainment (co-founded by Michael Strahan).

  • The goal is to first set up a women’s division, which is where most of the growth is — 14 states have already sanctioned women’s flag football as a high school varsity sport, smaller colleges already have teams, and the NCAA considers the sport “emerging.”

Last Down: Flag football is already played in more than 100 countries by about 20 million people, according to Bloomberg. While the sport has been around for years (if you’re a millennial, you may have fond memories of middle school PE… or not), the NFL is bullish on getting flag football up and running, because it’s set to make its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles Games in 2028. There’s truly no better global marketing opportunity than that.
