Happy Thursday, Future Party. The cost of living has risen so much that even the Tooth Fairy has had to up her game. According to Delta Dental’s Original Tooth Fairy Poll (yes, this is real), she’s now leaving an average of $5.84 per tooth — a 17% increase from last year. Lucky kids… some of us only got a dollar growing up.

DAILY TOP TRENDS

A24 Puts Musicians On The Actor A-List

A24 is routinely casting musicians in its movies and shows, creating a bona fide pipeline for recording artists to kick-start Hollywood careers.

The Big Picture: A24 consistently positions itself as the cool kid in town, so routinely bringing in musicians with cultural cachet is a smart way to get young audiences excited. It’s also a chance to mint new stars, as some musicians prove they simply needed the opportunity to expand their artistry.

Behind The Scenes: Musicians becoming actors — and vice versa — isn’t anything new, but A24 is helping it happen on an unprecedented scale.

  • Artists who have appeared in A24 films and shows include Charli XCX in The Moment, Snail Mail in I Saw The TV Glow, The Weeknd in The Idol, Kid Cudi in X, Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst in Y2K, and Tyler, the Creator in Marty Supreme.

  • There’s more on the way, including Phoebe Bridgers in Primetime and Gracie Abrams in a new film from Halina Reijn (Babygirl; Bodies, Bodies, Bodies).

  • Agent Dan Kim, part of CAA’s film-music crossover team, told THR that the studio “often comes to us asking for artists who want to act.”

Last Take: Just because a musician may be popular doesn’t mean a movie will suddenly do well (the same applies to most actors). The Moment, a satirical take on Charli XCX and “brat summer,” has made only about $4 million after a month in release. Still, artists told THR they aren’t signing on for movies for the money — that’s what the music is for. Instead, it’s about appearing in projects from a studio that has “positioned themselves as a cultural leader,” as Moses Sumney (who appeared in MaXXXine) put it.

Cool is its own kind of currency.

Coming Soon: While some artists are already providing the soundtrack to movies they star in (Charli XCX, The Weeknd), it’s only a matter of time before a top musician makes a full-blown musical.

Kalshi Gets Serious About Insider Trading

Prediction market Kalshi has announced the first individuals to be banned from its platform for insider trading.

Why It Hits: Prediction markets have been stirring up plenty of controversy lately, with insider trading fears consistently at the top of the list of concerns — especially since anyone can place a bet. While insider betting on these platforms isn’t technically illegal (yet), Kalshi knows that failing to crack down on the practice could undermine the integrity of its platform — ultimately souring people on it.

Behind The Bets: Kalshi wants gamblers to know that they’re officially on notice.

  • MrBeast video editor Artem Kaptur was banned for two years and fined $5,000 after betting $4,000 on YouTube streaming markets using “material, non-public information he obtained” from Beast Industries.

  • Controversial California gubernatorial candidate Kyle Langford was also banned for five years and fined $2,000 after wagering $200 on his own candidacy … and then posting about it on social media.

  • Kalshi also said it reported Kaptur and Langford to the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission, which regulates futures and options trades.

Closing Thoughts: Kalshi aims to wrap up investigations within 12 months when an infraction is identified and says it’s currently pursuing a dozen active cases. Considering the platform has more than 5 million users, that’s a relatively small number. It could be a good sign that people haven’t figured out a way to game the system… yet.

Prediction: Considering all the different types of bets that can be placed on prediction markets, new prediction-market traders on Wall Street may have to walk the strictest compliance tightrope in the history of finance.

30.9% of you voted Sometimes in yesterday’s poll: How comfortable are you dancing in public?

“I can dance in public — especially if it’s a great song! My husband, on the other hand, will not dance. That makes me a little sad, but I’m also perfectly okay dancing on my own!”

“Couldn’t stop myself if I tried.”

“Only with a lot of alcohol in my system…”

“If they don’t want me to dance, why are they playing music? I’m beyond the club scene now, but I used to dance the nights away when I was younger. I see no reason to sit out any opportunity to get up and dance, dance, dance.”
