Happy Thursday, Future Party. Here’s a fun one for the video game and astronomy nerds — Xbox has partnered with Snap to launch the first-ever Snapchat AR lens for the Moon. Using celestial tracking and your phone’s compass, the app lets users scan the Moon and transform it into a character from the upcoming game The Outer Worlds 2. Don’t be surprised if you spot a few more people pointing their phones skyward in the next few days.

AI Has Officially Taken Your Job

Bye, jobs. // Illustration by Kate Walker

There’s a lot of bloodletting in corporate America this week, with seemingly every major company slashing its workforce. But it’s not because their financials are bad… it’s because AI has allegedly gotten that good.

Why It Hurts: We’re only three years into the AI era (ChatGPT launched in November 2022), but the tech has already advanced enough to  disrupt human jobs at scale. The American labor market is still contending with two million people who’ve been unemployed for over 27 weeks, a lingering effect of last year’s  recession-fear layoffs… so adding another 100,000+ job seekers will only make matters worse.

Behind The Pink Slips: CEOs are saying the quiet part out loud — AI is replacing you.

  • It’s hard to keep track of how many people are losing their jobs this week Amazon, UPS, Target, Rivian, GM, Molson Coors, Paramount, Booz Allen Hamilton, Chegg, and more are all laying off thousands, even tens of thousands, of employees.

  • The vast majority of pink-slipped employees are college-educated, white-collar workers in middle management, sales, and software engineering — roles that were among the most stable and well-paying just a decade ago.

  • And the reason for the cuts is the same across the board: AI has automated these jobs, one person can now manage multiple  AI agents across tasks, and companies need to lower headcount to free up capital for more AI-driven projects.

Final Review: The fallout from these layoffs will be far-reaching. As experienced workers jockey for fewer, more competitive positions, entry-level applicants will find it even harder to get a foot on the career ladder. Already, the graduating class of 2025 has submitted more job apps than the previous class… and received fewer offers, per the National Association of Colleges and Employers. It’s no wonder that Americans’ confidence in getting a job is at its lowest point in years.

And for those who still have  jobs, they’ll likely take on additional responsibilities more work they’ll be expected to do faster with AI… and maybe still have to spend extra time fixing the AI’s mistakes.

Projection: For the first time in decades, today’s high schoolers may be encouraged to seriously consider blue-collar, frontline, or other specialized positions that are intrinsically AI-proof.

Tubi Taps Creators For Film Slate

Little screen on the big screen // Illustration by Kate Walker

FAST streamer Tubi and Kevin Hart’s Hartbeat are partnering on a slate of four films from top YouTube creators.

The Big Picture: Digital creators are getting a second shot at making it in Hollywood. A decade ago, the rise of multi-channel networks like Maker Studios and creator-focused outfits like Fullscreen never quite found lasting success. Now, the entertainment industry is focused on empowering individual creators to tell their stories surrounding them with the talent and resources needed to bring their visions to life.

Behind The Scenes: Tubi wants some YouTube talent.

  • Hartbeat’s first slate will consist of four films from Kinigra Deon, DC Young Fly, Chico Bean, and Karlous Miller.

  • The first two projects will be Deon’s Sundown, which the creator will write, direct, and star in; and Miller’s 85 South: Dead End

  • Tubi is already deeply invested in the creator business, having launched its inaugural Tubi for Creators program (which Deon is also  part of), casting creators in original projects, and even licensing content for FAST channels.

Last Shot: Interestingly, both announced projects are supernatural thrillers about road trips gone wrong. Hartbeat said its growing slate will allow the company to expand beyond comedy. It also partnered with Druski and Kai Cenat on a horror comedy in which the creators co-star opposite Kevin Hart.

And with YouTube talent increasingly dominating the premium horror space, it makes sense for Hartbeat to branch into the genre with titles that still capture the signature fun it’s known for.

Coming Soon: Kevin Hart seems to be the Hollywood talent most invested in the creator space, but expect others — like Will Smith and John Cena — to start flexing their influence too, using it as a way to experiment with lower-budget projects and reach younger audiences.

34.3% of you voted Yes, definitely in yesterday’s poll: Are you interested in outsourcing your chores to a robot housekeeper?

“Absolutely! Chores are such a tedious task, yet not doing them causes me so much stress at home. With my husband returning to the office, I no longer have as many of them done for me during the day.”

“I work for a nonprofit that supports people with mobility disabilities, and I can’t wait for robots to help those who need assistance stay in their homes and live independently. Won’t that be great? It’ll make a big difference for our aging seniors, too. Someday soon.”

“Dishwashers and vacuum cleaners are robots, too. I’m all for automation of monotonous tasks if it makes my life easier and frees up time for more important things.”

“Doing house chores keeps me grounded and grateful for what I have.”
