Happy Monday, Future Party. Hollywood isn’t happy about OpenAI’s Sora app cranking out deepfakes of nearly any IP. Last week, OpenAI said rights holders would have to individually opt out each work they didn’t want included — but few were buying it. WME quickly told OpenAI it was pulling all its clients wholesale. Feeling the heat, OpenAI has reversed course, promising rights holders “more granular” control and even floating a revenue-sharing model. It appears copyright law still has some bite.

Sauces Are Heating Up Your Fridge

Since COVID, sauces have become the most popular thing on the dinner plate, spicing up budget cuts across the rest of the grocery bill.

Why It Hits: Ten years ago, most people were debating whether ketchup, mustard, or mayo was the best condiment on the plate. Now, diners have thousands of options… and that’s shot the US condiments market up more than 50% to $12 billion. Tasty.

Behind The Bottles: Is there such a thing as having too many sauces in the fridge? So far, the answer is “no” …especially as diners try to recreate the flavor profiles of eating out as much as they used to.

  • Condiment leaders like Kraft Heinz Co. are boosting sales by double digits with new takes on their classic lineup, including ketchup made with cane sugar and clean-ingredient versions through its Primal Kitchen brand.

  • There are also several startups that have entered the space, including Glen Powell’s Smash Kitchen, Graza, and Momofuku Goods.

  • Restaurants are getting in the game as well, with Chick-fil-A, Arby’s, and Panda Express now selling their sauces wholesale. KFC has even launched a new restaurant concept in Florida dedicated entirely to sauces.

Last Bite: While Bloomberg thinks the sauce market is starting to chill a bit, new technology could expand both the market… and palates. Kraft Heinz rolled out a digital sauce-dispensing machine in 2023, dubbed Heinz Remix. In just two years, the number of sauce combinations has increased from 200 to over 2,000. No wonder Kraft Heinz is splitting into two companies — a growth-focused sauce company in one hand and an everything-else company in the other.

Think of it as the grocery equivalent of Warner Bros. Discovery splitting into Warner Bros. and Discovery.

Next Plate: The hottest talking point at your next dinner party might be how many food-to-sauce combinations you can offer guests. Leave no dish dry.

What if You Never Had to Clean Gutters Again?

Most gutter guards promise the world but still leave you climbing ladders to clear debris.

LeafGuard takes a completely different approach — instead of adding another layer to your existing gutters, they replace your entire system with a one-piece design that's engineered so debris never gets inside.

The science is pretty straightforward: water follows the curved hood into the gutter using liquid adhesion, while leaves, pine needles, and debris roll right off.

No joints mean no leaks
Aluminum is 20% thicker than standard gutters

With over 650,000 ladder-related injuries happening annually, eliminating gutter maintenance isn’t just convenient — it’s smart.

That’s a significant savings on a system with a lifetime no-clog guarantee and over 25 years of proven performance.

Shein Unboxes A Store

Unboxing, in-store // Illustration by Kate Walker

Ultra-fast-fashion ecommerce giant Shein just announced its first physical locations… and they’re all in France.

The Big Bet: Shein and competitor Temu dominated retail headlines during the pandemic… until tariffs and the end of the de minimis exemption became an existential threat to their entire business model. Shein is now trying a range of strategies to keep margins high, including shifting its headquarters back to China to chase a Hong Kong IPO and opening its supply network to other brands. Opening stores is just another prong in that strategy.

Between The Walls: Opening an ultra-fast-fashion store in the fashion capital of the world is certainly a move.

  • The Shein stores will open inside department stores like Bazar de l’Hôtel de Ville (BHV) and Galeries Lafayette in cities such as Dijon, Grenoble, Reims, Limoges, and Angers.

  • Shein is launching the locations in partnership with the real estate company Société des Grands Magasins (SGM).

  • But there’s a wrinkle: these department stores really don’t want Shein on their premises, with Galeries Lafayette saying Shein’s “positioning and practices” run counter to the chain’s “offer and values.”

Checkout: Ironically, Shein isn’t very welcome in Europe, especially in France. The country recently fined the company $176 million for improper user-data collection and passed a law that would further tax Shein for its environmental impact while also banning it  from advertising. By planting a flag in France, Shein will likely complicate that.

Future Order: Temu stores coming in 3… 2… 1…
