AI Just Found That 70% Of The Internet Is Broken
Using AI, security researchers discovered a major bug in the software powering about 70% of websites… and rushed to patch it before hackers could exploit it.
Why It Hurts: The power of AI is reshaping cybersecurity — companies can now discover issues that were previously too complex to detect, while hackers can exploit those same vulnerabilities. As the tech’s capabilities multiply, companies, organizations, and governments will need to work overtime to fix vulnerabilities before a catastrophic hack strikes.
Behind The Code: Yesterday, cybersecurity teams worked around the clock to prevent the internet from being destroyed, according to WSJ.
PHP, the code that undergirds most websites, was found to have a critical vulnerability that could let hackers “take control of any system running its software” in a matter of seconds to hours, depending on the system’s complexity.
Dubbed “PHP2Shell,” the bug could allow bad actors to steal personal information or hack anyone using an affected website.
An informal team of security researchers and software engineers worked together to quietly fix the issue before hackers caught wind of it. They developed a patch scheduled to roll out today.
But hackers discovered the vulnerability, forcing the team to release the patch early and warn the world to update their sites immediately.
Hundreds of major websites, including government sites and major media companies, went dark yesterday to upgrade their systems.
Final Patch: PHP2Shell — which Wiz co-founder Ami Luttwak called “the most severe AI vulnerability that was ever found” — was first discovered by Ryan Austin, a researcher at security company Calif, using OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 Sol during an OpenAI-funded audit of PHP’s source code. Fascinatingly, the flaw was flagged by a researcher decades ago, but was considered “too difficult to exploit and was largely forgotten.”
It just goes to show how quickly the cybersecurity landscape (and the world as a whole) is shifting. The unfortunate truth is that the internet is hardly ready for the future.
The Future: Quantum computing is poised to make current cybersecurity protocols obsolete, so maybe Congress will consider pumping the brakes on that tech before the world can even handle AI-powered hacks.

Competitive Barbecuing Gets Some Tasty Investment
Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions and Brent Montgomery’s Wheelhouse are investing in the newly launched BBQ World Cup & Expo.
Why It Sizzles: It’s the season of competition, with new sports leagues, competition series, and stunt-driven shows taking off. Meanwhile, cooking series have been an evergreen favorite for years, with recent international competition shows drawing eyeballs across streaming platforms. So, yeah, betting on BBQ is a tasty choice.
Behind The Grill: The BBQ World Cup & Expo is heating up.
Founded by CEO Scott Erdmann and President Shannon Pruitt, the organization is launching with 51 established qualifying events across 13 countries, per THR.
The competition will culminate in a championship event in Las Vegas next April, where the top 100 pitmasters will compete for a $1 million prize.
Last Bite: The BBQ World Cup & Expo is already gaining steam. Founding Shake Shack CEO David Swinhamer is joining as a co-founder and partner, and the organization has already spiced up its advisory roster with big names across the food and VC industries.
Erdmann and Pruitt said they plan to use the fresh round of funding to build out the inaugural event, expand the BBQ United platform into “a year-round digital home for barbecue fans and competitors,” and launch a new creator venture called Smoke Ring.
Next Meal: Don’t be surprised if some of the most exciting new names in the culinary world emerge from the BBQ World Cup & Expo. Just don’t watch the competition on an empty stomach.

“However, Meta donated Ray-Ban smart glasses to blind and low-vision veterans. We tried them there, and they’re incredible!”
“I would never violate other people’s privacy by recording them without their knowledge.”
“I think people’s privacy is important, and to me, this seems like the opposite of that. If it were for a hike, whale watching, or something where information is helpful, then maybe. As long as there are no people involved.”
“How connected, and connected to what, does anyone really need to be?”
“This world is already overwhelming enough without adding more images or things in front of me to determine if they’re worth paying attention to.”
