Happy Wednesday, Future Party. If you ever worried as a kid that burning a CD (that’s “copying it,” for you under-30 readers) might get you in trouble, you were probably in the clear… but those nightmares may come true for disgraced businessman Martin Shkreli. After buying the one-of-one Wu-Tang Clan album Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, he did the one thing he wasn’t supposed to: copy it. Now, a US district judge says the album’s current owners, PleasrDAO, can sue him for “misappropriation of trade secrets.” Honestly, that just makes the album even cooler.

OpenAI Is Getting Its Own TikTok
OpenAI has announced a TikTok-style social app for AI-generated videos — all powered by its new Sora 2 video model.
The Big Picture: AI-video social apps are emerging as the tech becomes more advanced. Meta just launched a “Vibes” tab in its Meta AI app for AI-generated UGC videos, while Google is rolling out Veo 3 inside YouTube Shorts. Are we entering an era of AI-video slop or the start of a new entertainment format?
Behind The Scroll: If OpenAI has its way, it’ll become normal to see deepfakes of you and everyone you know — something CEO Sam Altman embraced in the Sora 2’s launch video.
The Sora app allows users to generate 10-second videos with sound but doesn’t allow uploads of outside media.
It includes a “For You”-style feed, algorithmic recommendations, and the ability to like, comment, and remix a video.
Users can confirm their likeness on the app to create videos of themselves.
Users can also make videos featuring deepfakes of anyone who has confirmed their likeness on the app — automatically making them a “co-owner” of the video.
Notifications alert users whenever someone generates a video of them (even if it remains in the draft folder), and they can delete it or revoke access at any time.
Final Prompt: It’s no surprise that OpenAI announced Monday that Sora 2 will require copyright holders to manually opt out of each work they don’t want used to train the LLM. The company knows the best way to encourage people to download the app and crank out content is to let them make videos in the style of existing works. OpenAI wants its Studio Ghibli trend for Sora before the law catches up.
Next Upload: With OpenAI now knocking on Hollywood’s door, expect studios to ramp up lawsuits against smaller AI-video players pulling similar stunts — turning the definition of “fair use” into an existential question for entertainment.

Marriott Is Going Adventuring
Marriott Bonvoy, the rewards program of the Marriott hotel empire, is introducing a new hub, Marriott Bonvoy Outdoors, dedicated to adventure-focused properties and activities.
Why It Hits: Ever since the pandemic, travelers have rediscovered the joy of the outdoors, driving a surge in demand for the sector while spending in nearly every other category has plummeted. Though the need for social distancing is long gone, vacation itineraries remain focused on getting outside and exploring.
Behind The Stays: Marriott Bonvoy wants you to touch some grass, with its new hub highlighting 450 hotels, 50,000 residences, and a treasure hunt across 20 destinations hosted by TV personality Dylan Efron.
The data backs up the backpacking:
The Adventure Travel Trade Association found that the “adventure-first” traveler base has increased from 30% to 40%.
Two-thirds of international travelers are now open to adventure experiences.
The adventure market is now valued at $1.16 trillion, which encompasses outdoor activities, cultural exchange, and other physical experiences.
Final Reservation: Competitors Hyatt and Hilton have their own adventure-focused programs, but nothing as wide-ranging as Marriott’s. And with the US economy projected to face a $12.5 billion deficit in international traveler spending this year, per Fast Company, Americans’ desire to get out and smell the roses could help ease the pain.
Upcoming Trip: The growing desire to disconnect from technology could mint Gen Z and Gen Alpha the target audience for Marriott Bonvoy Outdoors — turning the rewards program for young travelers into what airline miles were for millennials.

74.7% of you voted No in yesterday’s poll: Would you watch a movie or TV show starring an AI-generated actor?
“I’ve always thought of acting as one of the highest art forms and have great admiration and respect for the talented actors over the years. Watching an imitation simply feels cheap and void of any real intellectual or human connection — except in the most artificial way.”
“As a woman, it’s already hard enough to feel confident in your own skin — with Photoshop, eating disorders, and people whose DNA is the same as yours fueling body image dysmorphia for everyone. Add AI to the mix, and it’s just one more hornet’s nest. Not to mention taking the green screen way too far. No thank you.”
“I’m hopeful that shows will have to disclose the level of AI used so consumers can make choices.”
“It’s a novelty. There is a place for AI actors in fictional stories in non-key roles.”
